Information for Students


Eligibility criteria
Before you apply to the Tuskegee BUILDERS Academy, make sure you meet the following criteria:
  • Student participants must be eligible to work in the United States in order to receive a stipend.
  • Be a high school student planning to attend Lee high school (Montgomery) during the 2021-2022 academic year.
  • Be a rising 10th, 11th or 12th grader (this means you will be in the 10th, 11th, or 12th grade in the 2021-2022 academic year).
  • Have a High School GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Be committed to actively participate in all Academy activities.
  • A letter of recommendation from your Science or Math teacher will strengthen your application, but it is not required.
  • Students currently on the Tuskegee University dual enrollment track exceed the qualifications for this program and are ineligible to apply.
  • All applicants will be interviewed by the Lee High School Science Department to determine eligibility for the program.

Academy Benefits
  • Students will gain problem solving skills and valuable academic and career knowledge.
  • All Academy activities will be led by certified science and math teachers in the participating school districts.
  • Each student will receive a stipend of $1,000  after successfully completing the summer portion of the program, and a stipend of $500 after completing the Fall and Spring requirements. The maximum stipend for participation in the Academy is $2,000 for the full Academy. Partial stipends will be given to students who fail to complete program requirements.
  • Stipends will be released at the end of the Academy contingent upon completion of all Academy activities.

Academy Timings
  • The Academy will be held using a hybrid format. Students will meet in person for a portion of the program (location will be announced to accepted students).
  • Students will participate in the Summer Academy June 14-July 2, 2021, Monday-Friday, 9:00 am – 2:30 pm.
  • Transportation arrangements will be discussed with parents/guardians upon acceptance to the Academy.
